How to Use Crayon Lumiere, and the Autumn Shades That Go Together
Crayon Lumiere is our waterproof eye pencil, and the one product in the range that does three jobs: eyeshadow, eyeliner and a light along the inner corner. It is enriched with sunflower oil and silk powder for a satiny, comfortable finish, the texture is creamy, so it glides on and stays put, and it is ophthalmologically and dermatologically tested and suitable for contact lens wearers. Here is how to use it, and which of the shades sit well together once the light turns autumnal.

summary
What is Crayon Lumiere?
A waterproof pencil eyeshadow, 1.6g, in a shade range that runs from a silvery white to a black pearl. The shades can be worn on their own or combined. Because it is a pencil, there is no brush, no fallout and no palette to carry: one or two crayons in a bag is a complete eye look.
Four ways to wear it
- For a natural look. Apply lightly across the lid and blend with your fingertip. The warmth of your finger softens the colour into the skin, which is why we suggest a finger rather than a brush.
- For intensity. Use a darker shade along the lash line or in the outer corner, then blend the edge so there is no hard line.
- For a smoky effect. Line the eyes with a dark shade and blend gently upwards and outwards. Two shades, one darker at the lashes and one lighter above, give the depth without the effort.
- For a lifted look. Blanc Argenté under the eyebrow lifts the look and opens the eyes up. It also works as a highlighter on the cheekbones.
Whichever way you wear it, work quickly on the blending. The pencil is waterproof, so once it sets it stays until you take it off, which is the point of it.
Looking after the pencil
Close the cap tightly after use. That keeps the waterproof quality and stops the tip drying out. Sharpen with a cosmetic pencil sharpener rather than a stationery one.
Autumn pairings: shades that go together
These are our styling suggestions, built from the shades on mavala.co.uk this season.
- Bronze and frosted brown. Bronze Doré across the lid, Marron Givré along the lash line. The classic autumn eye: warm, low-key, works on every eye colour.
- Empire green and gold-bronze. Vert Empire on the lid, Bronze Doré blended into the crease and outer corner. Green is the autumn colour of the year every year; the bronze keeps it soft rather than stark.
- Flamed plum and pearl grey. Prune Flambée along the lashes and the outer third, Gris Perle on the inner lid. Plum suits brown and green eyes especially; the grey stops it looking heavy.
- Night blue and bronze. Bleu Nuit as a liner, Bronze Doré on the lid. Navy reads as black from a distance but is kinder to the eye, and the bronze warms it for daytime.
Whatever the pair, one shade of Vanille Sucrée or Beige Nude in the inner corner and along the lower waterline opens the eye and finishes the look.
